Another dreadful event has taken place in this already grim year, the sad death of George Floyd. EA sports was predicted to officially announce the release date of their upcoming title on June 1, Madden NFL 21. However, the developers laid to rest to that matter and came forward with a more pressing issue of racism and inequality.

Every major gaming corporation extended its support to the cause and joined hands against the rising injustice. Xbox, Riot Games, Summerfall Studios, Bethesda, and Xbox all gave statements in response to the recent events.

Moving on, EA Sports took it to twitter saying “We stand with our African American / Black community of friends, players, colleagues, and partners. Our immediate attention is on actions we can take to drive change against the unjust treatment and systemic bias that is plaguing the nation and our world.”

In addition to this, the developers said that we can talk about football another time, as this sad incident is more important than any game or sport and we need to stand together to bring change and justice.

With that being said, we are not sure when Madden NFL 21 will make its way to the gaming arena. However, EA sport is planning its own digital E3 type show on June 11, perhaps we will find out more about the title at the show.

Black Lives Matter

Furthermore, EA is not the only name in gaming companies raising voice against the unjust murder of George Floyd. The studios behind League of Legends and Valorant, Riot Games as well as the developers of the latest David Gaider’s game, Chorus also gave a statement. Similarly, Naughty Dog, the developer of Last of Us, and Bethesda the publisher of The Elder Scrolls came forward to support the cause that Black Lives Matter. Last but not least, Marvels and Star Wars also responded to the ongoing issues.

Solidarity Against Racism and Injustice

The statement of Naughty Dog reads, “Now is not the time for any of us to be silent, For too long too many have suffered under a systemic problem in America. Too many have lost sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, fathers, and mothers. We stand in solidarity against racism and injustice”

The company further goes on by saying “Now is the time for all to do our part and end anti-Black racism and violence. Many of us at Naughty Dog are donating to national and local organizations. Please consider donating yourself. We hope to see the beginning of lasting change for POC in America. Black Lives Matter.”

Meanwhile, Activision said in a statement “Today, and always, we support all those who stand against racism and inequality. There is no place for it in our society–or any society. Black lives matter.”

Finally, Aaron Greenberg, marketing executive at Xbox asked people to raise their voice, break the silence and join hands to help find justice for George Floyd.
